About Team BICAS

Team BICAS seeks to lower barriers for those who want to participate in recreational road cycling and to build community and relationships between individuals from disparate backgrounds while raising funds to support BICAS through participation in the 40th El Tour de Tucson.

Begun as an initiative by a BICAS board member in 2016, Team BICAS’ primary goals are to:

  • Create a community of riders who support one another’s goals;
  • Foster friendships between team members as they achieve their riding goals;
  • Make recreational road cycling as accessible as possible to all who wish to participate and
  • Raise funds to support BICAS’s core programs (Community Tools, Education, Art and WomenTrans*Femme).

We achieve these goals through hosting regular training rides, rider registration drives, fundraising events and the development of a culture that welcomes all riders, regardless of their experience level or the type of bike they ride.

About BICAS

Officially incorporated as Bootstraps to Share in October of 1989, BICAS (Bicycle Inter-Community Art & Salvage) is a worker self-directed nonprofit 501(c)(3) bicycle center located just north of downtown Tucson.

Relying largely on generous donations from the Tucson community, and responsible stewardship of those donations, BICAS is able to provide a variety of programs to learn how to fix a bicycle, earn a bicycle, create unique art from recycled materials, and provide programs specifically targeted towards youth. BICAS believes in bicycles and other human-powered machines as essential vehicles for transportation justice, and is always striving to make them more accessible to our community.

BICAS is an education center, not a traditional bike shop.

Through advocacy and bicycle salvage, BICAS’ mission is to participate in affordable bicycle transportation, education, and creative recycling with the greater Tucson community.
